The following is the Last Will and Testament of Joel Parrish, recorded from records in the Clerks office in the Court House at SpotsylvaniaCounty, Virginia by J.J.Parrish.
LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF JOEL PARRISH
In the name of God, Amen, I, Joel Parrish of Spotsylvania County, being of perfect sense and memory, do make and ordain this my last will andtestament in manner and form following:
Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mildred Jones, one negroboy named Caesor, and one negro girl, named Dinah and her increase. Also one one mare, bridle and saddle, all which she has received. On the condition of her husband, William Jones, paying me the sum of five pounds and which said sum I have received, to her and her heirs forever.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my son-in-law Christopher Terrell, one negro boy named Will and one negro girl named Annis and her increase,which said negros are in his possession, to him and his heirs forever.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah Ellis, one negro boynamed Dick and one negro girl named Lilly and her increase, which said negros are in her possession, to her and her heirs forever.
Item: I give and bequeath to my son Joel Parrish (after my death), one negro woman named Rose and one negro boy named Iamey, to him and his heirs forever.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my son Henry Parrish, one negro gir lnamed Dinah after my death, and one negro boy named Will and thirty pounds I paid W. McWilliam Wiglesworth for him, to him and his heirsforever.
Item: Whereas I have heretofore given my son Timothy Parrish one hundred acres of land which he sold to M. Martin Davenport, also one negro boy named Abraham, which said negro died, to make him as near equal with the rest of my children (after my death), I give and bequeath unto my sons' wife Mary Parrish one negro boy named Moses, to her and her heirs forever.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Hooper, and to her heirs forever, one negro girl named Cealy and her increase, also a mare, saddle and bridle, a feather bed and furniture and a chest, all of which are in her possession. I also give to my said daughter the sum of twentypounds, to be paid her by my son John Parrish in two years after my death.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Susannah Proctor and to her heirs forever, one negro woman named Betty and all her increase, one bridle and saddle, all which she has received. I also give to my said daughter twenty pounds to be paid her by my son John in two years after my death.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Nancy Burbridge, one negro girl named Oney and her increase, also a horse, bridle and saddle and a feather bed and furniture all which she has received, (also after my death) one negro boy named Dick to her and her heirs forever.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my son James Parrish and to his heirs forever, one negro boy named Anthony which I bought of Mr. David Pallock, also sixty pounds which I paid to Mr. Ambrose Reins, for lands bought and gave him, also eleven barrels of corn which I let him have.
Item: I give and bequeath to my son John Parrish, and to his heirs forever, three hundred five acres of land whereon I now live also one negro man named Ben, one negro man named Punch, one negro woman named Judah, one negro woman named Jean, one boy named David, one girl named Brenor, and one girl named Polly (after my decease) and their increases, also my household and kitchen furniture, also all of my stock of all kinds, and all the residue of my estate on my said sons paying the Legatees heretofore given in this my will and also all the just debts that may come against my estate.
Item: I appoint and constitute my friend Benjamin Waller and my son John Parrish, Executors of this my last Will and Testament, and lastly do I revoke and make void all former wills and do declare this to be my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 21st day of April 1791.

INVENTORY OF ESTATE
Inventory of the estate made on December 6, 1791 by John Waller, JohnWoolfolk, Sr. and John Woolfolk, Jr., as appraisers; showed a tota lestate of 404-11-2 of which 292 pounds covered 14 negro slaves. Livestock listed included: 1 horse, 1 yoke oxen, 9 cattle, 15 hogs, 12 sheep, 2geese--among other items--spinning wheel, spice mortor, 50 gallons cider, 1 looking glass, 3 old books, 2 candle sticks and candle moulds and many other and sundry items, but no real estate was included as his holdingsat the time of his death were probably only the 305 acres willed to John Parrish.
