He married ELVA MARGARET GILLESPIE August 20, 1929 in Kansas City, Kansas, daughter of HENRY GILLESPIE and JOHANNAH SCHWANKE. She was born November 02, 1905 in Adams County, Illinois (Near LaPrairie), and died December 29, 1991 in Quincy, Adams County, Illinois.

Their sons held Wilfred and Elva's 50th wedding anniversary in 1979 at the Fabius Community Center at Smileyville, Missouri (left). They were laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetary, south of Augusta, Illinois (middle). There is also a memorial stone at Bethel Baptist Church, Smileyville, Missouri (right).

1. Wilfred was born at the Bowles farm 7 miles northwest of Palmyra, Fabius Township, Marion County, Missouri.

Wilfred attended Prairie View Grade School. In 2001 it was being used as a residence (left). Both Elva and Wilfred attended Palmyra High School. In February 2002, it was being used as the grade school (right).

2. He was educated at Prairie View Grade School near his home, at Palmyra High School, and one winter at the University of Missouri Agricultural College.

3. He was a farmer and a breeder of purebred Hampshire hogs.

Notes for ELVA MARGARET GILLESPIE:

1. Elva was born one mile east of La Prairie, Adams County, Illinois on the J.T. Ross farm .

2. She was educated at La Prairie Grade School, and at Palmyra, Marion County, Missouri High School.

3, After graduation from high school she was secretary to the County Agent at the Marion County Farm Bureau office in Palmyra, Missouri.

Religion:

1. She joined the La Prairie, Illinois Methodist Church as a girl.

2. After moving to Marion County, Fabius Township, Missouri in 1919 she joined the Bethel Baptist Church about one mile west of her home. She was pianist for Sunday School and Church for several years.

3. When she and her husband moved to near Bowen, Hancock County, Illinois in 1935 she joined the Methodist Church.

Wilfred and Elva were married at the parsonage of the Immanuel Baptist Church at Kansas City, Kansas, by Rev. Jim Powell the pastor who was Wilfred's uncle by marriage. They lived first on Wilfred's home farm, but moved in December 1935 to a farm near Bowen, Hancock County, Illinois. In 1939 Wilfred and his father-in-law bought the Stienbarger farm between Bowen and Augusta, Augusta Township, Hancock County, Illinois and moved there December 17, 1939.

Ken worked for McDonnell-Douglas, in St. Louis, Mo., as an engineer from 1967 to 1968, and again after military service until he went to seminary. He wass on the staff  of KMFA-AM, KMSM-FM, KGNN-AM, and KGNN-FM.  He also worked for KFBD-FM.  He was also Vice-President and later General Manager of Missouri River Christian Broadcasting from 1987-98.

He is General Manager of Midwest Christian Media, Inc., and Flat Foot Media, Inc. These organizations hope to develop Christian radio stations and provide programming and services for them.
