HEAVEN The only way we could have knowledge of Heaven would be by revelation. That is the way those prophets and apostles, as well as Jesus Christ. received their knowledge. “The Apostle said Holy men of God spake as they were moved upon by the Holy Ghost. So we are not permitted to see Heaven except by special blessing to us. In reading the Bible I find where many have been privileged to see and some have been invited to come up there and see. In Rev. 4, a door was opened into Heaven and a voice said come up hither and I will show thee things that will be hereafter. The heavens were opened many times for John. a great sheet was let down from heaven three times for Peter, full of all manner of four-footed beasts and creeping things like bugs, snakes, and lizzards. The Lord Jesus prepared the Gospel. That is, He became the author of eternal salvation to all them that obey Him. Because of the fall, Jesus Christ will redeem all who will obey His voice, for He is the good Shepherd. This earth was once a holy place when God placed our parents in the garden, but they fell. So He prepared a plan by which they might come back and although they may have sinned, yet they can obtain a home when their last farthing for their wrong doing [77] has been paid. In John 14, Jesus said, In My Father’s house are many mansions, and in I Cor. 15, Paul said, There is one glory of the sun and another glory of the moon and another glory of the stars and as one star differs from another in glory, so also is the resurrection of the dead. Did you notice that in all three of these places he said (glory; and did you notice that in John 14, Jesus represented those mansions as all being in the Father’s house? Well, I believe that and that is the reason for the message in John 3 God sent not His Son in to the world to condemn the world, but the world through Him might be saved. heaven is our goal, but what heaven are you working for? There is a reward called the celestial. When Jesus Christ shall come He will bring all the Saints with him. Read Zech. 14, Lord my God shall come and all the Saints with Thee, and the Lord shall be King over all the earth and there shall be one Lord and His name one. Then read Matt. 5. Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth. From these scriptures we learn that the people who have kept the commandments, and that means they have obeyed the Gospel, they enter into the thousand years reign when Christ shall come. We have a description of the people and place, farther as in Isaiah 35. The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them and the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose. It shall blossom abundantly and rejoice even with joy and singing and the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, and the excellency of Carmel and Sharon and the excellency of our God. This tells of the glory and beauty that shall be given unto it, and also farther it states, the ransomed of the Lord shall return and come to Zion with songs of everlasting joy. In this we see the ransomed of [78] the Lord who inhabited Zion will dwell there. Zion shall be built on the earth. Read Ps. 50. The Lord calls the whole earth and out of Zion the perfection of beauty God hath shined. But we read further in Isaiah 11. He shall not judge after the sight of His eye, nor His ear. But with righteousness will He judge the poor and reprove with equity the meek of the earth. The wolf shall dwell with the lamb. The leopard shall lie down with the kid, the cow and the bear shall feed and their young ones shall lie down together. The lion shall eat straw like the ox, and a little child shall lead them and the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters shall cover the sea. That is the condition during that millenium of peace that shall come when Jesus shall come to reign over all the earth, that means the ransomed and redeemed that shall return with him when He comes, they will reign in Zion. Hence, Ps. 30, out of Zion the perfection of beauty God hath shined will he the celestial kingdom or the celestial reward. Now what of the other glories? We are told there is another glory represented by comparison to the light of the moon. But we are not told of its location. Its all in his hands and we are also told there is also one glory represented by the glory of the stars and as one star differs from another in glory, so also is the resurrection of the dead. But did you notice that even this reward that was represented by the light of the stars was called glory ? I have such a wonderful Saviour that everybody should know. God sent not His Son in to the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him should be saved. Can’t you see that in His mission work as in Isa. 61, He was sent to preach deliverance to the captives as well as to the poor and broken-hearted? Can’t you see the necessity of continuing His preaching until every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ [79] is the Lord? Can’t you see the reason for that prophecy? The strong among the mighty shall speak to thee out of the midst of Hell, together with those that help Him. So the heavens will be filled in the many glories with the people of the world. First, those who are Christ’s at His coming. The rest of the dead remain where they are until the second resurrection. When at that second resurrection the dead small and great shall be resurrected and they will be judged according to their work, and the sea gave up the dead which were in it and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them. Hi there—That gets them out of Hell. It was cast into the Lake of Fire. Now don’t come round to tell me that there is no justice with God, one of His attributes is justice, and although the prophet said all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, yet they will get some glory of that dim star, its still some glory. Heaven is that place God has prepared for those that love Him and when that time comes all shall bow and humbly confess that Jesus is the Lord and all this to the glory of God. So heaven is a place where the good deeds are rewarded. Some only had one talent and buried it. He that hath my commandments and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me and he shall be loved of My Father and I will love him and manifest Myself to him. If you do no more than give a cup of cold water to one of these My disciples in the name of a disciple, ye shall in no wise lose your reward. So Heaven is up to you. If you don’t work for the celestial kingdom by obeying the Gospel you will not receive it. Show me your Faith without works and I’ll show you My faith by My works, know this, Faith without works is dead. No dead thing can go up stream. The rich young man as of Matt. 19, asked Jesus what good thing he must do to enter into life. Jesus answered, [80] Keep the commandments. He said. which? Jesus then enumerated some of them, lie said I have kept all of these from my youth. What lack I yet? Jesus told him to sell his goods and give to the poor and come and follow Him. So we take the lesson to be willing to share with the poor. In latter day revelation, Jesus said if we would not share together in temporal things, how could we share together in Heavenly things. Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth. This earth was made for man and when that time comes when Jesus shall return, this earth will undergo a change, Ps. 50:1-2. and will be made fit and as in Isaiah 11, the knowledge of God will cover the earth as the waters cover the sea. Then will be the time when the Saints will reign on the earth and live and reign with Christ, and at the end of the millenium of peace, the Holy City, the New Jerusalem will come down from God out of Heaven and the tabernacle of God will be with men and God himself will dwell with them. No more sorrow, no more crying, glorious things are sung of Zion. Enoch’s City as of old where the righteous being perfect walked with God in streets of gold. Love and virtue, faith and wisdom, grace and gifts were all combined, as himself, each loved his neighbor, all were of one heart and mind. Then the towers of Zion glittered like the sun in yonder sky. And the wicked stood and trembled. Filled with wonder and surprise. Then their faith and works were perfect. So they followed their great head. So the city went to Heaven and the world said Zion’s fled. When the Lord returns to Zion, and we hear the watchman cry, then we’ll surely be united and we’ll all see eye to eye. Then we’ll mingle with the angels and the Lord will bless His own. Then the earth will be as Eden and we’ll know as we are known. So when at the end of the thousand years and a little [81] season, the Holy City will come down from God out of Heaven and God Himself will dwell with His saints on the earth. Read Ret’. 21. That Holy City will be 12,000 furlongs on either side which would be 1.500 miles square. So don’t worry about room there, that city is a big place. Its streets are paved with gold, there will be 3 gates on either side. Each gate will be a single pearl. The walls are of precious stones. That’s a wonderful picture of glory, power and beauty which is not surpassed by any other. So come and let make ourselves ready. You can go to that city. If you have not already started make up your mind and get into the Church of Jesus Christ and get a testimony in your soul and no power on earth can conquer you when God is on your side. HELL I thought it would be nice to tell you something about Hell. It would not be justice to you if I didn’t tell you something about Hell. This seems to be quite a popular subject with the wicked people. They probably use it with out thinking of its meaning. They say don’t that beat Hell, or as hot as Hell, or as cold as Hell. In fact one T. DeWitt Talmadge, a popular evangelist of a few years back, said, Hell was so hot that if a person was taken out and put in a red-hot caldron of potash he would freeze to death instantly, and the general opinion among the clergy of the sectarian world is quite in accord with the idea. So I would say if that is true, Hell’s an awful hot place. Let’s go to the word of God for the answer, and find out about it, and consider them well. The prophet David said the wicked shall be turned into Hell. So there they go and you can’t stop them. If you believe in the prophets you believe that. Hi, there, put that down so you can refer to it occasionally. That same preacher that said Hell [82] was so hot, the duration of punishment in that hot place was so long, that if a little bird would pick up a single grain of sand on the Atlantic seaboard and fly across the continent and deposit it in the Pacific Ocean and continue until he had carried all the sand from the Atlantic Ocean, it wouldn’t be sun up in Hell. These two ideas that are so unreasonable and erroneous we will answer and show you they are without foundation in the word of God. No one will deny but that there is a hell and that the wicked go there. But my Lord said that God sent His Son into the world to save the world, (not damn it). Now you consider that God is just and in Isa. 11, He shall not judge after the sight of His eye nor reprove after the hearing of His ear, but with righteousness, he will judge the poor and reprove with equity the meek of the earth. Since the great majority of people who have lived in mortality have not accepted Jesus Christ and the wicked shall be turned into Hell with all the nations that forget God If they are not redeemed from the place, the Devil would gain quite a victory. Be this known unto you that God’s word will not fail. Read Isaiah 55:10-l1. For as the rain cometh down and the snow from Heaven and watereth the earth that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall My word be that goeth forth out of my mouth. It shall not return unto me void, but it will accomplish that which I please and prosper in the thing whereunto I sent it. Now you consider God sent not His Son to damn the world, but to save it. How is He going to get the job done? Well, here we go to find out, and if you don’t mind we will take a little journey to the place and see for yourself. Those sectarian preachers have told you about the blisters of hell to scare you. We’ll take a trip down there with the mighty one. If you decide you want your home there, I’ll tell you now [83] it will only be till the second resurrection and then the place will be torn up, or as the prophet John said death and hell will be cast into the Lake of Fire. Don’t let some sectarian preacher tell you there is no justice with God. Isa. 11: He will not judge after the sight of His eye, but with righteousness will He judge the poor and reprove with equity the meek of the earth. These prophecies do not need repair or modification. In Isa. 5 :14. Hell hath enlarged herself and opened her mouth without measure. So there will be plenty of room there for as many as want to go. In Ezek. 32, We have a long story about Hell and among other things He said, was “The strong amount the mighty shall speak to thee out of the midst of Hell. Now won’t that be something? I wonder when he’s going or has he already been there and if he’s been there did he take any one with him, and why did he go? What did he tell them? Well read Ezek. 32 again. The strong amount the mighty shall speak to thee out of the midst of Hell together with them that help him. The apostle Peter told us why he went, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh and live according to God in the Spirit. When did he go? Read I Peter 3:17, It is better if the will of God be so that ye shall suffer for well doing than for evil doing. For Christ also suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that lie might bring us to God. Being put to death in the flesh but quickened by the Spirit, by which lie also went and preached to the Spirits in prison, which were disobedient in the days of Noah while the Ark was preparing. Now those people whom Noah had preached to were given the opportunity to hear it again. Read the words of David. Be ye lifted up ye everlasting doors and the King of Glory shall come in. Who is the King of glory? The Lord of Hosts, He is the King of Glory. Be ye lifted up, (He had the keys) [84] ye everlasting doors and the King of Glory shall come in. Now this all agrees with Eph. 4, wherein Paul said, “Now that He ascended, what is it that He first descended into the lower parts of the earth that he might fill all things. For as you know that in His mission work that He was sent to perform; It says in Isa. 61, He was sent to preach deliverance to the captives and open the prison doors. So when Jesus appeared to John on Patmos He said, I have the keys of Death and Hell. He had authority to open the prison doors and preach to them and tell them the conditions of their pardon. He opened the mission work in Hell and others who hold the order of the Meichesidek priesthood were also sent and the wicked who were turned into Hell with all the nations that forgot God were and are preached to by His authorized servants and the people are prepared and have the opportunity to get ready for the judgment. Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, and His mission reaches Heaven, earth and Hell and that includes them all. In Matt. 16, “I will build my church and the gates of Hell (those everlasting doors) shall not prevail against it. The church will be set up in Hell and people will receive it there. In John 14, In My house are many mansions, if it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you, and if 1 go and prepare a place for you I will come again and receive you unto myself that where I am there ye may be also. But those who prepared not themselves neither did according to His word Jesus said would be beaten with many stripes. I’d say that would be Hell for them. But when all those stripes have been laid on them (then what) ? Let Paul answer that. Be not deceived God is not mocked, but whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap (not some thing else). Hear Paul again, I Cor. 3, Every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labor. Now [85] hear Jesus Christ, If you do no more than give a cup of cold water to one of my servants, you shall not lose your reward. In Ze’ 9, Turn to the stronghold ye prisoners of hope, for today do I declare I will render double unto you. What d he mean by that? He will reward them for their good deeds. They will be punished for wrong. Hear the testimony of John in Rev. 20, I saw the dead small and great stand before God, and the dead were judged out of the things which were written in the books, according to their works, and the sea gave up the dead which were in it and death and Hell delivered up the dead that were in them and death and Hell were cast into the lake of fire. Now there is just one more class left and that is those whose names were not found written in the Book of Life. Some one says, I thought everybody’s name was written in the Book of Life. So it is but that class that their names were not found in the Book of Life are those who have received the word of God. obeyed the Gospel, received a testimony by the holy Ghost and testify of it and turn away and say they did not receive and sin against the Holy Ghost are called Sons of Perdition. They once had their names there but because of their lives their names were removed and they are called dogs, sorcerers, and whoremongers and those that love and make a lie. They were east in to the lake of fire with the Devil and his angels. Now you can see that Jesus Christ came to save the world and His word is final and will be preached until every knee will bow and every tongue confess to the glory of God that Jesus is the Christ? So Hell is a place of correction as well as confinement and punishment and according to Ezek. 32 and Eph. 4 it is located in the nether parts of the earth or midst of the earth. The graves are [86] round about and after the prisoners have paid their penalty for their wrong they will be given a reward for the good they have done at the judgment day. Let’s be wise and build on the Rock that is laid in Zion and our counsel with Him will not be in vain. I WILL BELIEVE It’s sweet to trust in Jesus and trust in His word, as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Others may follow their own course. So when we make a resolution like that we’d better see to it that we will go with Him. We have such a wonderful Saviour. that everyone should know my subject means I believe the things He said and done are the things of our salvation or are the words of His grace and authority for us to live and die by. Paul in Eph. 2 gives us the key. We are created unto good works to walk in them and that is His grace or power of God unto our salvation. So reject the words of His grace and you reject Him. Accept the word of His grace and do it, you receive Him. Do you have faith to do good work and walk in them? If you do, then you believe and not till then. James 1 :25, Whoso looketh into the perfect Law of Liberty and continueth therein, He being not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work will be blessed in his deed, and although he may make a start and repent of his sins, yet if he stops his work is in vain and be comes as a sounding brass or tinkling cymbal. Read James 1 :27, Pure religion and undefiled before God is this, To visit the widows and the fatherless in their affliction and to keep himself unspotted from the world. Show me your faith without your works and I’ll say it is dead. Faith without works is dead. So as by grace are ye saved through faith. Leave out the works, your have a dead salvation, and what would that [87] be Will it mean that you’ll do your stretch in Hell and then receive one of the lesser rewards, perhaps that of the dim star? But my subject is, I believe, so I’m going to put in the works. I ll travel up the hill to Calvary. I’ll see the mighty thing He done for me. I’ll serve as He served, for He led the way for me. I’ll go wbere He went and observe the things He had done, believe the things he said when He preached that powerful sermon on the mountain, south of Capernium as of Matt. 5:6-7, and glean from His sayings the truth and put it into action as the leaven in the bread, it leavened the whole lump. If I find some part of that little house that I live in torn down, its because I have neglected the great truth of His counsel, and will stiffer and may die premature for may be I did not dis cover my mistake soon enough or make the repair or repentance in time. All the members of our body must be watched. Our eyes, our ears, our hands, our feet, our heart, our brain, our all, and then when we have them all under control we may expect Him to look upon us and give us all the help and assistance we need. Of course we would all agree that while we followed Him in Galilee and Judea, and saw him baptize and lay his hands on people and hear him prophesy. How we would be thrilled to hear Him say My doctrine is not Mine, but His that sent Me. If any man will do His (God’s) will he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God or whether I speak of myself. And to think that includes you. Yes, he included me. He included me. That Pharisee that made a long prayer on the street corner and shouted his righteousness, was a child of Hell, Jesus said so. It takes more to enter the kingdom and reach the goal than a prayer. We must make that prayer come true by entering into the way of salvation, with a [88] will to get the job done, and then the yoke will be easy and the burden light. Come to the waters of salvation with humility that is willing to share these temporal things together with those who are in need, and there will be so much sunshine in your soul that it will warm the hearts of others and your conversation will be flavored with light and wisdom until your home will be a haven of comfort and blessing to all who come to it. I believe all this and everything that is lovely, and true that leads us to that city whose builder and maker is God. I shall adopt as my counsel and go onward and upward, for God will require of us a full surrender of our time, that means the object and purpose in life will be to build up His Kingdom and establish His righteousness and He will see that my temporal wants will he met. As for example when I was in my mission in Eastern Iowa, I lived in Moorhead, Ia., 300 miles from field. I had one grapevine in my garden. It was not a large vine, we (ray wife and I) prayed that God would bless that vine. That year we got two bushels of grapes off that vine. Our District President Brother Lane was visiting with us and I showed him the vine and told him what we got and he remarked, “The Lord blessed that vine.” That is not an uncommon experience. It should be a common experience. He said bring all your tithes (that means tithes, offerings and consecrations into My storehouse and prove me herewith, if I will not open unto you the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it. Well you know I have never realized the full blessing as that but the reason I did not, I did not measure up in full. I feel I should write one more page on this subject. I will believe in the word of wisdom, as we call it. Section [89] 86 in D. C. This counsel was given about the time the Kirtland temple was built and if you remember the saints made a great sacrifice to build that, (house of the Lord). They gave their tithe, and money and even broke up their chinaware to beautify the stucco on the walls, and were rewarded by the visitation of angels and the Lord Jesus appeared to Joseph and Sydney Rigdon. The Spiritual gifts were given abundantly, let this be our challenge for Zion. Will you meet the challenge? I believe we can and will. Onward with Jesus, Zion is near, let’s go on to the reunion and meet our loved ones there. Amen. THE OTHER FOLD When our Lord was here in prison and went about in Galilee and Judea, preaching and prophesying, healing the sick and even raising the dead, He was met with opposition all along the road. He builded the church in a very special and unique way, which was given Him by His Father. And the saints or members who were followers of Him enjoyed His powerful ministry, and on one occasion as of John 10, He said, verily, verily, I say unto you he that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. And as you see He represented His church or the group who believe on Him and were baptised into His Kingdom as the sheepfold, which was a very appropriate name for them. And as he spoke this parable to them He told them that other sheep I have which are not of this fold. It is this other fold of which I speak. As you know the Lord is referred to in many places in the Bible as the Shepherd. As in Ps. 23, The Lord is my shepherd, etc., which is very appropriate, but is used only to represent [90] our Lord as their Leader and Commander. And right here Let me tell you God sent this great Shepherd in the person of Jesus Christ to save the world and it was very appropriate for Him to speak of them as a sheepfold. there at Jerusalem and as He spoke He told them that He had other sheep aside from this fold at Jerusalem. Put that down so I won have to call your attention to it again that these other sheep were somewhere in the world, then as we will show you in this sermon on that other fold. When God confounded the language of the people at the Tower of Babel. The record as in Gen. 11 states they were scattered from thence upon the face of the whole earth. Now that being true and America being a part of the earth, some of them came here, which we will prove later in the sermon. In Acts 17, Paul said God made of one blood all the nations of the earth and determined their times (that is when they should live) of their habitation that they should seek the Lord and feel after Him and find Him. Now since He did do that it would be as easy for the people of America to find Him as it would be those of other lands and as they were all of one blood. (some one says if all of one blood, how came some to be black) ? It was because God placed a curse on some because of sin. They have the same Shepherd. Now read John 10 :16, other sheep I have which are not of this fold and they shall hear My voice and there shall be one fold and one Shepherd. There must be something in God’s word about these other sheep. Yes, there are a lot of prophecies about them and their writings, when they came and what they — did. So get ready for this story, ask God for light and faith to believe the things He said. So in the works of God in dealing with men and nations, He chose certain [91] ones to represent Him and those men were called prophets. And others were called to help them as occasion required, and in this long list of men who were called prophets and were ordained to this holy calling there is one who stands out as a great and powerful man of God. That prophet was Joseph. This Joseph was one of the younger Sons of Jacob. He was an obedient child and became a very clean and powerful man. His brothers hated him because he was a dreamer. For me I would not say that was against him, but seems as if they did. And in the story as you know they sold their brother Joseph to some Ishmaelites for 30 pieces of silver. He was taken to Egypt and after years became ruler. It was at this time there came a famine in the land of Canaan and Joseph’s brothers came to Egypt to buy corn. And to show you the kindness of his heart and the cleanliness of his soul, I want to give you a poem that fits this particular part to show you at least the kind of men God chose as prophets. But I’ll say this one is (in my judgment) the top of the list. “When Joseph beheld his brethren, Afflicted and trembling with fear, His heart with compassion was filled, And from weeping he could not forbear. A while his behavior was rough, To bring their past sins to their mind, Yet when they were humble enough, He hastened to show himself kind. How little they thought it was he Whom they had ill-treated and sold. How great their confusion would be, As soon as his name he had told. Though greatly distressed before, [92] When charged with purloining the cup, They then were confounded much more, Not one of them dared look up. I’m Joseph, your brother, he said, And still to my heart you are dear, You sold me and thought I was dead, But God for your sake, sent me here. Joseph saved them from starvation by bringing them to Egypt and caring for them. Now this Joseph had two sons, Ephraim and Manassah. Joseph was a righteous man and God was pleased with him, and when he was blessed by his father (as you know Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were patriarchs and laid their hands on people and blessed them). Jacob laid his hands on Joseph. He promised him a better land than that given to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (as you know He gave them the land of Canaan.) But he said the blessing of thy father (Jacob) hath prevailed above the blessings of thy Progrenitors unto the utmost bounds of the everlasting hills. While this does not locate definitely his land, but does tell us of the everlasting hills in his land. I know of no other land that would fit the expression. “Everlasting Hills’’ except the two Americas. As you may know in them we have a continuous range of mountains beginning at Point Barrow, a high rocky cape coming out of the Arctic Ocean and extending along the Pacific Coast, with an unbroken chain of mountains right through the Isthmus of Panama, and along the Western Coast of South America and into the ocean again at Cape Horn. “Everlasting Hills”. And now for a very complete description and location of Joseph’s Land we go to Deut. 33:13. Blessed of the Lord is Joseph’s land, for the precious things of Heaven and for the dew and the things that [93] coucheth beneath, for the precious fruit brought forth by the sun and for the precious things put forth by the moon, and for the precious things of the earth and the fullness thereof, and for the good will of Him who dwelt in the bush. Let them come upon the head of Joseph and the top of the head of him that was separated from his Brethren. For his horns are like the Horns of Unicorn and with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth, and they are the tens thousands of Ephraim and the thousands of Manasseh. This prophecy clearly states that the sons of Joseph, who were Ephraim and Manasseh, it was their descendants who would realize the inheritance and locates them at the ends of the earth from where the prophet was, would be the two Americans. Another outstanding thing in the prophecy is, “The good will of Him who dwelt in the bush. It was God who appeared to Moses in the burning hush in southern Arabia. So Joseph’s Land being the two Americas, they have the continuous Everlasting Hills. They are at the end of the earth, from where the Prophet Moses was when he spoke the prophecy. They are the place that brings forth the precious fruits by the sun and the moon, and the chief things of the ancient mountains, which are gold, silver, iron, copper, and right now the precious Uranium arid any other thing in the whole world, we have here in America and now are helping and offering to feed the hungry nations of the world, fulfilling the statement of the prophet, ‘‘Blessed of the Lord is Joseph’s Land”. Now the next thing we will consider is when did they come and where are their writings and would God preserve their writings for future generations? These questions are entitled to an answer, and will give you the answer.
