Chapter 4

COME AND SEE

A great many people are not convinced of anything unless they can see it for themselves. Many will say, “I’m from Missouri, you got to show me.” Well that’s not too bad, and while Missouri is a good place to live, while I like to live in Missouri, you might like California or Colorado, or some other place much better. So there it goes in a merry-go-round of many places. But when it comes to our Heavenly Home we all want that and we would put forth an effort to obtain it if we could have an evidence here and not have to wait till we die to find out. Well there should be a way to obtain that testimony. Now I have found a lot of promises and many things that challenge my admiration and if I should share them with you I hope you will look upon it as a favor and not a thrust. Come with me and see for yourself what I found both in the Old Testament and the New, as well as the experiences of my life. Let’s read them together. In Acts 10:34. The Apostle Peter said, I perceive that God is no respector of persons, but in every nation he that feareth God and worketh righteousness is accepted of Him. That gives us an even start and if you don‘t back out on this move we will be bosom friends and love each other. As you may read Peter was taught this interesting story when God opened Heaven three times for Him. He let a

[31]

great sheet down from that holy place, filled with all man ner of animals and creeping things, like snakes bugs and lizzards. He told Peter to slay and eat. He didn’t tell him to eat all of them. I suppose he would have picked them over a little before he would eat any of them.

Peter objected and the whole vision taught Peter that this everlasting Gospel was for everyone and that any person could be cleansed and free from sin and fit for His kingdom, whether he was black, white, red, or yellow or brown. Now you think that over and don’t think because your skin is white, your heart is also, it might be red or yellow. You have never seen it yet. God looketh upon the heart.

Come and See. In John 14, He that hath my commandments and keepeth them he is that loveth me and he shall be loved of My Father and I will love him and manifest Myself to him. Now what do you think of that. It sounds good to me. It wouldn‘t make any difference if I was black, that compound personal pronoun He includes me. Now all that would be left to this investigation would be to find His commandments and keep them. What do you think, can you see anything more to do? I think we are getting somewhere unless you get homesick and want to go back where you started. Don’t get weak in the knees. God said in Isaiah 35, strengthen the weak hands and con firm the feeble knees, better let your knees tell you some thing here at this mile post. My knees tell me there is a highway and low way. The highway is smooth and you get help to carry your load. The low way is rough and stony, every fellow for himself and the devil for the whole crowd.

Now that man, Cornelius was a good man (Acts 10). He had faith in God. It says he feared God with all his house, gave much alms to the people (so he had faith and

[32]

repentance) and prayed to God always (maybe we’d be better off if we would pray a little more). But up to this time Cornelius had not been baptized into the Kingdom of God or the Church. So God sent an angel to tell him his prayers and alms were acceptable to God and He told Cornelius to send for Peter and He told Cornelius where Peter lived. Now as you know this man Peter was one of those twelve men that Jesus called and ordained and named apostles and Jesus told them that His Father, God gave to Him these appointments. Read Luke 22:29.

Hi, there can you tell me if God ever changed that pat tern? If He did, show me the Scripture. I’m sure standing pat on these fundamentals and if you want to travel on the highway you will travel with Him. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.

You will remember Jesus told His disciples to wait in Jerusalem until Pentecost or the time that Jesus would send the Holy Comforter to them and at that time He charged them that they were to teach everybody to observe all things He had commanded them. They waited ten days in prayer and received it. Immediately they sent Peter and John to Samaria to confirm the people whom Philip had baptized. They went and laid their hands on them, and they also received the Holy Comforter. Now this was a clear test as to how the Gospel ordinances would be preached and kept, and taught to everyone in all the world. What have you done with this, do you still walk with me?

Well, I’m glad you are still with me and fully believe that promise of John 14 :21, that’s final and we must be governed by it. For in John 12:47. It will judge us in the last day. God does not walk in crooked paths and He does not permit us to do so if we do His will. He reminds us the path we are to follow is straight and narrow. Let’s

[33]

look at the writings of the prophets in the Old Testament. In Isaiah 55, My word will not return unto me void, but will accomplish that which I please and will prosper in the thing whereunto I have sent it. So it will work out for us and we can have a testimony as Job. I know that my Redeemer lives and when He comes to the earth in these latter days He will recognize us, For He said in John 10, “I know my sheep and am known of mine.” Isn’t that beautiful’? I think it is. How wonderful to hear His voice. How it thrilled me to have Him speak to me. We may have to travel our mountain, but we can do so by His assistance. Psalm 50, “Gather my saints together unto Me by sacrifice.” Others have sacrificed and you may have to pass through the testing in order to determine your quality, whether it is wood, hay, stubble, gold, silver or precious stones.

Something must be done, ask Him about it. Have you been in the garden with Jesus all alone with the Saviour in prayer’? Have you been in the garden with Jesus’? Have you walked with Him there? Come and let’s follow Him and wear the yoke, though it may hurt to wear it at first, you will get used to it and then it will be easy. Love and virtue, faith and wisdom crown the crest of Zion’s Hill. Look for it, it is there.
